Pointe shoes& injury

Recommended Posts

This is what I tell myself when the Freed charges hit my account. Better to pay for pointe shoes than to pay for doctor's bills and rehab. I really do believe that. PT gets expensive quickly, and you're missing prime training time while you try to recover.

It's hard to know exactly where to draw the line on a pair of shoes, though. Trial and error, I guess, like just about everything else in ballet.  My policy is as long as DD's are doing everything they can on their end to maximize the life of the shoe - rotating pairs, darning the platforms, liberal glue applications, etc. then when DD's say a pair is dead, I take their word for it at this point. It's a good thing I didn't know how many shoes they'd go through when they started this, though.  ;)
