Ballet Talk for Dancers

Looking Younger

Recommended Posts

I am 16 years old, but I'm short and look like I'm 13 or 14. I will graduate high school and audition for ballet companies when I am 17, however I will likely be still growing and look 15. Will this be a disadvantage for me when auditioning? Will directors not want to hire me because I won't be mature?

Thank you!

Esmeralda, it's a good question, but I would have to say that will depend more on your technique and maturity (which has nothing to do with size).  If you dance like you are ready to be a professional, some companies may like to have a smaller dancer.  And you may grow enough in the next year, who knows?  :)  The main thing is that you  present yourself like your age, not that you look younger.
