winter intensives?

Ok, so I was wondering if you guys could help me with this one. I'm most definately not the best in the company I'm in right now. However, I want it more than just about anybody to move up in Company in May. My brother's ex-girlfriend who is a dancer gave me some suggestions on how to improve my dancing. First she said that she'd help me (yay). She also suggested trying to take one class somewhere besides where I currently take, once a week. She also suggested me doing a winter intensive. I personally had never heard of winter intensives. So, does anyone have any info. on winter intensives or any other ideas for me to improve myself?

Twinkletoes, I have never heard of a Winter Intensive! However, many of the major schools of classical ballet, professional company related schools, and full time ballet academies have quite intensive programs all year. Was she perhaps suggesting that you seek out a more professional school? What type of school do you now attend? Are you in a major city? Is there a professional company in your city?

American Dance Festival has a winter intensive in New York, but I believe it's mostly modern. I don't know much about the winter program but the summer program does offer ballet technique every day. At the very least you would get exposure to new teachers and spend a week or two in a great city. Good luck!!

Twinkletoes, one of the Mom's said that in CA there is a school that does a week of winter internsive during the time when most people are closed, however I think that is quite unusual. Most people are very busy during the holidays with Nutcracker, especially SERBA companies.

Since you are in an Atlanta suburb, I'm assuming you are getting good training. There are a couple of very good schools that I know of in the Atlanta suburbs!

Yes, that refers to the school year program. Most schools in the States have a 9 month program from Sept. to June, and then a Summer Intensive, which is separate and accepts people from everywhere.

Now, if you're willing and able to travel, I wonder if there are the equivalents of Summer Intensives active in Australia or New Zealand? How about it, Down Under? What's available during your summers, when the Northern Hemisphere is having winter?

i know that some schools overhere in europe have intensive courses in october, but that might not be in the period you're looking for...

one school is balletwest in schotland...very good school, RAD though...but it's open to all styles...

in germany, the RAD has an octobercourse in munich if i'm right...

twinkletoes, let me now if that period is the period you're looking for, and if so, i can give you some more information.

Thanks for that... but I was actually looking for late December-early January because that's when I'm on winter break. Thanks anyway though!

I just read in "Dance Spirit" magazine about Broadway Dance Center's Winter Workshop in NYC from Dec 27 - Dec 30. Only a few days, but that would be fun!

Ms. Leigh, since this is really too expensive for me to consider, especially with the traveling costs, could you tell me the name of the Winter Intensive you heard about in California?

It would be so great to do an intensive during the time off from studio/school!

Thanks:)

Actually, Twinkletoes, I don't know anything about it. One of the moms mentioned it to me, but I don't remember her saying where it was, and I don't remember which mom it was. Sorry. Perhaps she will see this thread and contact me again :(
