Pointe Readiness - Leg flexibility/extensions

How flexible do you have to be to get on pointe, and how high should your extensions be?  I'm hoping to be put on pointe this year or next, but I still don't have my splits and my extensions are terrible.  Is this a big deal?

OldSoulDancer, I think going on pointe is more about feet strength and technique, not about how high your extensions are. If your feet are strong enough and you have good enough technique so you don't injure yourself while dancing you can probably dance on pointe. But always ask your teacher if you are ready to go on pointe first, they would know best if you are ready.

balletly, Yeah, of course, I definitely wasn't planning on doing pointe before I'm told I can.  Don't want broken ankles, lol.  But thanks, that's reassuring!

Please remember that the Teacher-Moderator address the technique questions.  Please wait for them.
