Administrators mom2 Posted June 30, 2015 Author Administrators Report Share Posted June 30, 2015 ABT has been busy! Lots of news today, promotions and new company members. One of the most notable events of course is that Misty Copeland has been promoted to principal: http://www.nytimes.com/2015/07/01/arts/dance/misty-copeland-is-promoted-to-principal-dancer-at-american-ballet-theater.html?ref=arts&_r=0 Stella Abrera has also been promoted to principal. If that is not enough news, Alban Lendorf joins as principal from the Royal Danish Ballet, Jeffery Cirio as soloist from the Boston Ballet, and Maria Kochetcova joins as principal from the San Francisco Ballet. In addition there are other promotions - see this link from ABT: http://www.abt.org/insideabt/news_display.asp?News_ID=522 Congratulations to all! Link to post
Administrators Victoria Leigh Posted July 1, 2015 Administrators Report Share Posted July 1, 2015 I had the pleasure of working with Cassandra Trennary for two years when I taught at Phyllis Allen's Lawrenceville School of Ballet. My second year there she was on the ABT scholarship for her training at home, and after that year left for JKO. A delightful young dancer and wonderful student who has risen very quickly from JKO directly into the company, and now a soloist. No surprise to me, except maybe how quickly it all happened. GTLS Designs
I'm sad that Maria Kochetcova will be spending less time at SFB - tho maybe now she'll be filmed more often so we'll have a more permanent record of how amazing she is!! Promoting Misty is loooong overdue. ABT has been silly to not jump onto her talent as well as her natural star power! She can (and should) become the new face of ABT!!! Link to post
