Resurrected threads re flexibility

Mel Johnson

Recommended Posts

There have been a number of different inquiries about threads about stretches for flexibility. I have taken the liberty of going back to the archives and taking three representative threads with flexibility as a topic for your perusal. What other things would you like for me to get for you? We have a lot of resources already in archives, and I can bring them right up here for you!:D

How about any threads on extension? Improving arabasque? Also, I've never been able to pull my arabasque with my hand to my knee....something about not being able to roll the hip joint properly to get into that position standing... (lemme see if I can 'splain better...standing, extend leg in attitude a la seconde, and rotate to attitude back with the hand pulling the leg closer to the body as the leg extends into high arabasque, then penchee...or something like that...really good stretch, looks lovely, but i can't do it!!! waaah! ) any threads addressing that issue too?

ok i'm going to get some coffee now....

OK, sabrina - this is one of those active/passive flexibility issues. I know we've got a few on this one. Lemme go look.

Wow! Thanks Mel! I've printed out several threads to read and try out after my next class or private session in my basement :D

I'll be sure to pop back in here if I think of anything else though...Thanks again!

Hey, it's what those archives are for!:D It's the reason we created that repository in the first place!

Forgive my silly questions, but are archives accessible by us mere mortal posters as well as the masters??

I feel like I lucked out, either way...finding such a huge, immediate source right off this way. It's going to be a loooong wait til monday evening..... :)

The archives are indeed accessible to all, fastfeets! Just go down to where it says "Forum jump", and scroll to Archives :)

I'm amazed...I really am. I printed out tons of information the other day on stretches and such....there was some extremely helpful advice in them 'thar threads! ;) Thanks for pointing them out....

I worked on some passive stretches for the straddle split, and have seen a bit of progress (as well as i dont have to justify watching tv while i stretch..heehee). Also, some of the iliosoas stretches have already improved the height of my extension.

Again, thanks.... :)

  • 1 month later...

can i ask about this thread? and 'stickies' in general?

when i read the following in mel's FIRST post - "I have taken the liberty of going back to the archives and taking three representative threads with flexibility as a topic for your perusal." - i assumed that what was to follow was links, to certain archived threads...but no - no links.

i Do understand that one can go and look for the threads oneself...so, is the purpose of a sticky, such as this, just to alert us to the fact that we CAN search archives?

or, at the time mel posted, (back in oct 1998, or whenever), did he actually bring those threads up to the top of the board, and now they have sunk back down again?

sorry to be asking a Q which i KNOW will be answered somewhere else...but you know how lazy some of us get, sometimes!

;)

In answer to your first question, the answer is yes, it was intended to alert people to the concept that there are archives here at Ballet Talk, and that they are freely accessible to all posters. It also has a lasting purpose, in that it will encourage posters to open their viewing preferences to a longer period than the default setting, which I believe is ten days. If you open out the length of time the forums will show posts from like perhaps, "show all posts" and track back to the date of the sticky, you'll find the threads spoken of on and after the date of the sticky, which is to say, 20 Sep, inst. It was a device to get readers to exercise their options and use more of the "bells and whistles" the software allows, and make them more responsible for how they use the site, rather than rely on the moderators to go and fetch anytime a question is asked that asks for a charge over ground thrice-charged-over.:)
