Im not starting on pointe yet, well probably not for a long time, but i was just wondering how long it would take me to get on to pointe. Im 15 years old and im currently working on grade four. How long do you think it will take for me to reach pointe work level. I wont try before im ready as i know its extremlet dangerous. Danielle DeVor
This is a technique question rather than a specific shoe question. I am moving it to the Young Dancers 13 - 16 section. Link to comment
Administrators Victoria Leigh Posted September 24, 2002 Administrators Report Share Posted September 24, 2002 Hello Victoria, welcome to the Young Dancers' forum on Ballet Talk! How long it will take depends a great deal on your physical aptitude for ballet and the amount and quality of your training. There is no way we can answer this question without seeing you. You really need to ask your teachers. But you are very wise to know that starting too soon is not a good thing! It takes several years of regular and good training to get the body ready for the rigors of pointe work, and also to train the dancer with enough knowledge and vocabulary to be ready to execute their technique in pointe shoes. I hope you have read the "Sticky" entitled Facts of Life about Pointe Work. Link to comment
