Guest JewelTutu
Hey, I'm starting to learn fouettes en pointe. I was wondering if anyone had any good tips for excecuting them well. Same for soutenu and chenne combinations. Spotting and such etc. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I've started by whipping my leg at the barre onto pointe, but not turning. I would like to attempt them in the center soon. Link to comment
Mel Johnson
Lee, this is a technique question, and I'm moving it down to Young Dancers for an answer. Link to comment
Mel Johnson
Okay, first things first - since you're worried about doing these things on pointe, the first thing you've got to have is solid pointe! Good relevé, no bent knees, lift out of the shoes, all of that. There are no short cuts, no simple tips. It's hard work all the way, and doing what you've been taught about pointe and turning, and putting them together. If you can't turn these things on demi-pointe, they'll only be more difficult on full pointe! Link to comment
Administrators Victoria Leigh Posted September 25, 2002 Administrators Report Share Posted September 25, 2002 Lee, check the topic on "turns" which is currently active on this forum. It has a lot of stuff about spotting. Fouettés require a very strong center as well as the ability to do consecutive relevés on one foot, and of course a good spotting ability too. Practicing the action at the barre is good. Be sure that the working leg remains turned out in second and the foot fully pointed. A double pirouette to start gives you the best preparation, as it gets the momentum going. Link to comment
