Guest dance4life87
does other dancing help you in ballet? well, i know that ballet is like the basic root to all dancing, it helps you in jazz and probably a lot of other kinds of dancing but are there any other dancing that helps to be better in ballet... for example if i took hip hop jazz tap would it help my ballet at all? or would it just be the other way around, that my ballet would be better for the other two? it might be a really stupid question but doesnt hurt to ask:D  :D Link to comment
Mel Johnson
Is hip hop jazz tap one genre, or three? Jazz, after you're well-based in ballet, can be a valuable additional study, and the same goes for Modern Dance. Hip hop is just another form of freeform jazz in my book, but tap actually works against ballet. Link to comment
Perfect Performer
Hmn, That's interesting that Tap works against Ballet. I Know a lot of people who take Tap AND Ballet. Link to comment
Mel Johnson
If you're dancing for fun, it doesn't much matter, but you have to be able to separate the two forms physically and mentally. If you're thinking of ballet as a career, the tap often compromises ballet technique. Link to comment
