Royal Blue

I was wondering, is royal blue to harsh a color for am auditon, or would a lighter color or navy be better? Pretty unimportant right now since it is only November I know, but I was just wondering.

Medora, royal blue is fine if that is a color that you like and it looks good on you.

thankyou! I love royal and it does look good on me because I have blue eyes and dark bown hair, but I just didn't know if it was too harsh. I searched back through the archives and noticed that you said that red is not a good color. So I was just wondering about royal because it is bright as well. :cool:

While were at it, some leotards have contrasting trim. Are these okay, or not preferred?

Ladies, the idea for auditions is TASTE. Wear something that is totally tasteful for a classical ballet class, and which looks good on you. Contrasting trim is fine, as long as it is tasteful and not screaming, like red or orange or shocking pick or chartreuse. Basic dark colors or pastels generally work very well. Red is just a bit TOO different and not really very good for an audition. Royal blue is a standard color used in many schools as a uniform and is therefore totally acceptable. Dark colors are generally best, although there are some dancers who looks very good in pastels. Wear what is best for your body.

Okay.....sorry about so many questions but........

I have this periwinkle long sleeved leotard that looks really good on me because it makes my arms look really long. Besides the fact that it's bright, would it be bad to wear a long sleeved leotard because they can't see all of your arms??? Does it matter whether they see your arms or not (Because I know that arms are very important for presense and expression!)???

As an auditioner, the sleeve length has never bothered me one way or the other. However, some teachers might have a preference for a short sleeve or camisole type. I really don't think that for an audition it would be a problem, however.

on a similar note- what about halters? too much? would a thick strapped halter be better than a thin strapped?

 

I'm not sure if any of you know which leotards I'm talking about but if you do, what about Natalie's Fan, Web, and Aztec backed leotards? if they where black would it be better? this is pretty much out of sheer curiousity...

If in doubt, err on the side of the conservative. Halters would be a no-no, as they could suggest strange things to certain minds involving whips and chains.

You can wear whatever you want at auditions, as long as you like it. Some people think that you should only wear black, navy, or other dark colors at auditions, but if you ike royal blue wear a royal blue leotard. Just make sure not to wear hot pink or anything like that like Ms. Leigh said.

Unless, of course, the pre-audition materials contain a dress requirement, which you must follow as closely as possible. Read the package carefully, to make sure you are following instructions correctly!
