Administrators Victoria Leigh Posted November 10, 2002 Administrators Report Share Posted November 10, 2002 Young Dancers, this topic is just to remind you that it is almost always a good idea to consult your teachers about which summer programs might be best for you at this point in time. Some students are ready to work in a totally different method or style, and others are not, and it would be a good idea to have your teacher's thoughts on this. There are so many auditions and so many options these days, and I think it is very hard for young dancers and their parents to know which programs would be best suited for their level and ability at any given moment in time. Also, for those who are older, like 16-18, it's important to think about programs with schools connected to companies where you might have a realistic chance of a position some day. Just a thought or two ;) Link to comment
Guest Medora
My teacher said to me when I asked her about the Houston Academy that I should aim for something "a little lower." She does think though that it would be a good idea for me to audition for ABT and Washington. I just can't understand what she meant by lower, I have just as good a chance of getting into Houston as anywhere else. I know she likes the Houston Ballet, she has told me about them beign so good and all. Later, she told me that I should audition for "anything my parents will let me audition for." So should I ask her about why I shouldn't audition for Houston again or just do it? I don't want to do anything she doesn't think I should do, but I feel like I'm driving her crazy because I try to talk to her about this so much. I want to just go for it and audition because I don't see the harm in it. I really don't want to drive her crazy with all these questions, so should I just continue to drive her crazy or just go ahead and audition for as many programs as I can; she told me to do that, but I guess the thing about Houston still bothers me. Administrators Victoria Leigh Posted November 11, 2002 Author Administrators Report Share Posted November 11, 2002 Medora, I have no idea what your teacher means by "a little lower" and then mentioning ABT and WSB. They are all professional schools. Obviously ABT and Houston have larger companies, but that does not mean that the schools are not all equal. I would just go with her second thought and audition for everything you can at this point. In terms of the difference between auditioning for ABT in DC or Winston-Salem, I have no idea! Guest Medora
I had no idea what she meant either! I'm just going to do what I want to, and I might try to bring it up again. I think she thinks it would be harder for me to get into Houston, but I don't know. I'm just going to go with the second thought. Link to comment
