Guest Medora
Ms. Leigh, forgive me for the spelling of this name, but my dance teacher took a ballet class from Lupi Sorrono at the Washington Ballet in 1991, and she was curious to know if she still teaches there. Link to comment
Administrators Victoria Leigh Posted November 14, 2002 Administrators Report Share Posted November 14, 2002 No, Medora. Miss Serrano retired from the Washington Ballet a few years ago and moved back to NY. She now teaches for ABT and some other places as well. It's Lupe Serrano, by the way, and she is a wonderful teacher and was a wonderful principal dancer with ABT! Link to comment
Guest Medora
Okay Thanks. I'll tell my teacher that. Yes, my teacher told me she was a dancer with ABT, and also prided her for giving crazy combinations with no pattern whatsoever that no one in the class could remember. So, natually, everyone messed up their exercises but it was all in good fun. My teahcer really enjoyed her class. Link to comment
Administrators Victoria Leigh Posted November 15, 2002 Administrators Report Share Posted November 15, 2002 Medora, it's possible that the combination on that particular day was intended to work on the brain and the memory ;) It's also possible that if your teacher had only one class with Ms. Serrano, she was at a disadvantage in terms of being able to pick up the work right away. Every teacher works differently, and it takes a little time working with them to pick up on how they put things together. Ms. Serrano is a wonderful teacher, and I would not believe that she would do anything that was crazy, just possibly very challenging Link to comment
Mel Johnson
I can testify to Ms. Serrano's giving occasional combinations as "think pieces", and she also gives some of the doggonedest good MEN's classes I ever saw anybody teach! Link to comment
Guest Medora
When I said crazy I didn't mean crazy crazy. I meant exactly what both of you said, very challenging or brain teasing. ;) Link to comment
