Mel Johnson
They are nothing more than a pointe shoe made without a stiff shank, and a somewhat lighter box. They are useful for students transitioning from soft shoes to pointe, and are mandatory for certain RAD examinations. (PS. Welcome to the Young Dancers' Forums here at Ballet Talk on Ballet Alert! Guest *Victoria*
Which RAd examinations in particular? Victoria Link to comment
Mel Johnson
The Vocational Track Examinations, Intermediate Foundation through Advanced 2. Candidates change into pointe shoes at a specified time in these examinations. In Graded (Recreational) Track Examinations, soft pointes SHOULD not be worn, but the requirements don't say they MUST not. Chances are a candidate showing up in soft pointes would be marked down for it, but that's at the discretion of the examiner. Link to comment
