I pulled my groin muscle stretching today i think. It was before we started dancing, i was sitting and stretching waiting to go on and it just struck pain.... and i talked to my teacher and she said to keep stretching it and make sure i was warmed up, i am scared to do anything to it cause i don't want it to get worse. will it warm it up if i use a heating pad on it and then stretch it?? any stretches you recommend? thank you!

Melissa, that is why we are always talking about being warmed up BEFORE you stretch, except for very simple and gentle things

If you have pulled a groin muscle there is nothing you can do but NOT stretch it, not even warmed up. If it's the groin muscle you will have great difficulty lifting your leg to the front and to the side, and possibly the other leg to the back. If you go to a doctor you might be able to get a prescription for physical therapy, which could help it to heal quicker. It does take a bit of time for it to heal, however. Major nuisance injury :)

so i shouldn't dance on it at all?? that will make it worse? i don't have a large part in Nutcracker, but we have rehearsals the next 2 weeks and then performances, what do you think i should do? i don't want to do anything that will cause something permanent...

That depends on how bad it is, Melissa. If it is really bad, to the point where you cannot lift your leg in a retiré, or do a grand battement, then yes, you will have to rest it. Hopefully it's not bad and will heal in a few days, but if you make it worse then it will take longer.

Hey there. I had a groin injury earlier this spring due to a Pilates Trainer stretching me too much, yipes! (I learned that lesson years ago NOT to let anyone stretch me at all but I trusted her and went ahead and did anyways... :) ) At any rate, it wasn't so bad I couldn't dance on it, but I really had to turn in that leg, and on top of it, it wouldn't heal. I finally had to take a month off in August and it healed. So don't deny yourself the time it'll take to rest it. If you try to keep dancing on it, you may be prolonging the injury and holding yourself back. Only you can judge how bad it is and whether you can perform with it or not (I know how it is to have to perform and be injured) so either way, if you do or don't perform I would definitely give it rest at some point. (And make sure it's enough that it doesn't hurt at all anymore...I would do little "tests" on myself at home to see if I was ready for class and just when I thought I was ready, it wasn't...so I had to wait.) The people I talked to who had this injury before told me that this can be a long-healing injury if not treated properly, so don't push it okay? Good luck! (BTW, I am over 22, so I'm not sure if I can post on here, so you can delete this Victoria if I'm not allowed on this board!)

No, you're not allowed on this board, Wendy, however, since your information is valid and helpful, I will leave it. We do ask adults who wish to post on YD to please clear it with me or with Mr. Johnson first though :)

i think i have the same. since the last week, i can't do my splits anymore with the right side in front (i could always do it very easily) and grand battements to the front and side hurt when my right leg goes too far up (above 90) and grand battements derriere with my left leg and penchees...

the weird thing is, i don't know how this happened. one time suddenly i couldn't go into my split anymore (didn't have problems with my grand battements and penchee that class) and last class i had troubles doing grand battements...nothing snapped or i didn't have a painful moment during ballet or what so ever....

and, what would be the best to do now? keep on going gentle (i don't have many classes a week, as my studies are on number one this year), or let it rest for a week or two???

any advise???
