I'm in a bit of a hurry, so please excuse any typos. I am thinking of auditioning for an acting part in a film. I wonder if acting is beneficial to dance and/or hopefully, my dance career. I would appreciate your opinions everyone.

Another thing I want to say is thanks. I have been very busy lately and have not had the chance to thank everyone properly for their advice and info. I would like to say it all here. Thanks, everyone! And also, a big thank you to Major Mel and Ms Leigh is in order. So, thanks!

Why, don't mention it, pavlovadancer, it's what we're here for!:)

Yes, acting is good for dancers to do, but you'll find your first experience acting in a film rather confusing, probably. Scenes are not shot in order, there's a lot of stop-and-go, and there's very little in the way of audience to help you out. Crew doesn't count.

In what way is it good for dancers? Does acting carry over to dancing? Or does it look good in your resume? Perhaps you'd get more preference in school/company auditions? Sorry for mis-spelling your name, Major Mel. ;)

A simple piece of homework for you will answer most of your questions. Watch a video, or better yet, see a live performance of Giselle. It will answer all questions about why acting is beneficial for ballet. How it looks on a resume depends on who's looking at the resume!;)

At my school, I take and acting elective class and I see it helping a lot. When you do combinations from ballets or even just the music, I think of the character and my teachers notice. All it can do is help.

good luck!
