i totally know what you mean! i found the book randomly for quite cheap one day. such a treasure! her insights on technique and anecdotes about balanchine and what he liked were really interesting! while i did really enjoy this book, manuals about how to dance always kind of worry me. i guess its just the thought of an untrained person attempting ballet out of a book!

Well, I think to make sense out of most of it you'd have to be a decently advanced dancer to begin with...I mean, they have nuclear bomb plans on the internet, but it will do you no good unless you're a nuclear physisist...

Actually manuals about how steps ae done are mostly for teachers or advanced dancers who do know what they are doing. They are reference books only! You are right, trying to learn ballet out of a book is not possible.
