Hello Everyone:

In class the other day a girl asked when we were going to start doing "attitudes" what exactly is that?

an attitude is when your leg's in an arabesque, but bent at the knee so your leg is behind you-it's taken from the (roman?) messenger god Mercury who used to fly in that position.

Hello ballet_lover, welcome to the Young Dancers' forum on Ballet Alert Online!

dance4life, I think it's time for you to check out www.abt.com and visit their online dictionary of ballet! I would also strongly recommend that you go to your nearest Barnes & Noble or Borders, or click on Amazon.com (above) and get a copy of Gail Grant's Technical Manual and Dictionary of Classical Ballet. It is a small, very inexpensive book, but one that every student should have.

I would also recommend that you find out why you are not being taught the terms in your classes. You said in another post that you are 13 and going on pointe. The fact that you don't know what an attitude is seems extremely strange to me for someone who is supposedly at a level of technique to start pointe work. :(
